1. Who we are
Vowly is the data controller responsible for your personal data under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) of Ghana. This means we decide how and why your data is used.
2. Information we collect
We collect:
- Account data: name, email, date of birth (to verify you are 18+), and authentication details.
- Profile data: photos, bio, interests, values, and prompt answers you choose to share.
- Usage data: how you use the app, likes, matches, and messages.
- Device data: approximate location (city/region only — never exact GPS) and device information.
3. How we use your data
We use your data to:
- Provide matching, chat, and core features.
- Verify your identity and keep the community safe.
- Improve our matching algorithm and the Service.
- Process payments for subscriptions and add-ons.
- Send you notifications and (with consent) marketing.
4. Lawful basis
Under Act 843, we process your data based on: your consent; the performance of a contract (providing the Service); our legitimate interests in operating a safe platform; and compliance with legal obligations.
6. Data retention
We keep your data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
7. Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.
8. Your rights
Under Act 843, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes and update the "last updated" date above.
